Council to host an information session for prospective Councillors

Ahead of the first local government elections for Georges River Council on 9 September 2017, Council will be hosting an information session for those nominated to run as a Councillor. The information session, which will also be open to members of the community who are interested in what it means to be a Councillor, will be held on Monday 14 August at the Hurstville Civic Theatre. This is a great opportunity for candidates to learn about the roles and responsibilities of both Council and Councillors, including understanding community expectations, challenges of the role and the importance of speaking on key issues. It will also cover topics such as dealing with conflicts of interest and the support that is available to Councillors. Local Government NSW, which has extensive experience in providing professional development to members of local government, will be facilitating the event. The information session will be free for all nominated Councillors and others who are interested in attending.
