Georges River Council consolidates staff under one roof

Posted 18 April 2017 by (Hurstville News)

The majority of Georges River Council indoor staff are in the process of moving into one location at the newly renovated Georges River Civic Centre, on the corner of MacMahon and Dora Streets, Hurstville. Following the amalgamation of the former Hurstville City and Kogarah City Councils, it was decided to bring all staff under one roof to increase efficiency within the organisation. It was also noted that financially and logistically it made sense for Council staff located across the Kogarah and Hurstville offices to be brought together in one location. Savings made by consolidating staff in the Civic Centre will be passed on to residents through improved services, such as the extension of the voluntary pensioner rebate scheme and extended customer service hours. Once all staff have moved into the Civic Centre, Council will lease the former Kogarah Civic Centre for commercial purposes. Georges River Council Administrator John Rayner explained that Councilandrsquo;s vacant office spaces in Kogarah present a great opportunity to bring in commercial businesses and jobs into the CBD. andldquo;Councilandrsquo;s Kogarah office building is in an excellent location for businesses, particularly with it being so close in proximity to public transport, andrdquo; he said. andldquo; We expect that the local economy will benefit directly from the presence of new businesses and employees that Council can bring into the area by making this office space available to them.andrdquo; andldquo; The potential revenue income from renting out Councilandrsquo;s offices in Kogarah is expected to be approximately $800,000 per annum, andrdquo; he added. In addition to consolidating staff across the organisation, Council has also created a new one-stop-shop at Kogarah Library by relocating its Kogarah-based customer services to the library in Kogarah Town Square, Belgrave Street. This means residents and ratepayers will be able to access both Council and library Services from Kogarah Library. As part of creating this new one-stop-shop, Kogarah Libraryandrsquo;s operating hours have been extended to commence from 8.30am andndash; 7.00pm Monday to Friday, 10.00am andndash; 4.00pm Saturday and 10.00am - 1.00pm Sunday.
