Hurstville City Council extends submission closing date
Mayor Jacovou said the decision was made following two community information sessions where residents requested additional time to prepare their submissions.
“A number of my fellow Councillors and myself attended the sessions to listen to the community’s concerns.
“Residents raised several valid issues and we want to give them extra time to put forward their views.
“The closing date for submissions is now 11 January 2013.
Mayor Jacovou strongly advised that no decisions had been made on any properties which may be under review.
“To date, Council has not met to consider the proposal,” he said.
“However, I can assure you that all community input will be considered during the decision-making process.”
Deputy Mayor, Cr Andrew Istephan said Council would determine the issue as soon as possible to provide certainty to residents as to the status of their property.
“We understand that people’s future plans may have been placed on hold due to this review,” he said.
“I want to assure our residents that Council is working diligently to resolve the matter quickly,” he said.
Mayor Jacovou said Council is currently updating its planning controls for the City of Hurstville and as part of this process, it is required by the NSW Government to review its heritage items.
“Once submissions are received from this initial consultation, a report will be referred to Council in February 2013 for its formal consideration,” he said.
“A further round of consultation, which will be advertised in the local newspaper, will be undertaken once Council has considered its position.
“At that time, our residents will have another opportunity to put forward their submissions.”
To make a submission, write to the General Manager, PO Box 205, Hurstville BC 1481 or email: email@example.com by close of business 11 January 2013.
