Mayor of Hurstville, Cr Jack Jacovou said the St George Hospital’s Cancer Care Centre was the winner of the 2013 Hurstville City Council Mayoral Ball.

Mayor Jacovou said the event raised more than $28,300 for the centre.

“The night was a wonderful success and it was great to see so many people from our community enjoying themselves as well as helping to raise much needed funds for this facility,” he said.

“The community support of this event was exceptional and will go a long way to assist this remarkable medical organisation.

“In the near future, the Cancer Care Centre will once again undergo expansion to cater for an increasing number of cancer patients utilising the service.

“The works are estimated to cost almost $2 million and will effectively triple the Centre’s current capacity.

“It is anticipated the expansion will include a more practical layout and an additional 10 chairs and three beds in the chemotherapy facility.

“I am delighted that Hurstville City Council has raised more than $600,000 for St George Hospital cancer services over the past few years.”

Mayor Jacovou thanked the community, businesses, sponsors and supporters that participated in the 2013 Hurstville City Council Mayoral Ball.

“Without their continued support, this great event would not be possible,” he said.
