Mayor Badalati said the Mayoral Golf Day – a highlight on the local business community calendar since 2002 – will be expanded to include a pro-am and junior competition, members’ event and other activities.

“This three-day fundraising event for the St George Hospital’s Prostate Cancer Institute (PCI) will be held at Hurstville Golf Course, in Lorraine Street, Peakhurst from 6-8 November 2009.

Council is proud to be a Platinum Sponsor of the Institute, and since 2002 we have raised more than $312,000 for this great cause.

The 2009 Hurstville Mayoral Charity Golf Tournament will include:

Friday, 6 November Hurstville Mayoral Charity Golf Tournament
Saturday, 7 November Members Day
Junior Golf Tournament
Hole in One Shoot-Out

Sunday, 8 November Westpac Pro-Am Golf Tournament

Minister for Gaming and Racing, and Minister for Sport and Recreation, the Hon Kevin Greene, said the three day tournament will build on Council’s fundraising efforts for the PCI.

“Last year’s Mayoral Golf Day raised $35,000, and we are expecting a significant boost this year, with the expansion of the event,” he said.

Director of St George Hospital’s Cancer Care Services, Professor John Kearsley, said Council’s fundraising has greatly assisted the PCI to increase its capacity to treat prostate cancer sufferers using leading-edge treatments and equipment.

“Hurstville City Council has been the lynchpin on which the PCI has depended to make an incredible difference to the lives of our patients and the community at large,” he said.

“While much has been achieved to date, the PCI still requires a large amount of funding to continue its sophisticated research and treatment facilities and to purchase equipment.

The 2009 Hurstville Mayoral Charity Golf Tournament is proudly sponsored by Westpac.
