In association with the Sydney Sixers, Hurstville Oval will host a game as part of the Women’s Big Bash League on Sunday, 17 January 2016.

Mayor of Hurstville, Cr Vince Badalati said that this was an exciting opportunity for Hurstville.

“I am delighted that Hurstville Oval has been selected to be part of the high profile Women’s Big Bash League,” he said.

“This is the first year that Cricket Australia has introduced a Women’s Big Bash League, so it is a great win for Hurstville to be part of such a monumental occasion.

“This new women’s league will not only introduce new fans to the game, but will hopefully provide a visible pathway for young girls who want to play cricket at an elite level and help establish some of the country’s best breakthrough female talent.

“An event for the whole family to enjoy, this will be the Big Bash League’s fifth season which last year saw over 900,000 watching the Channel Ten coverage every evening and is a tournament which aims to ensure that cricket remains one of Australia’s best loved sports.

“Since its official opening in 1911 Hurstville Oval, has played host to a slew of the country’s best cricketers.”

“Within the last year, Hurstville Oval has been selected to host a number of international and national professional level games including the Matador BBQ’s Cup and the Women’s National Cricket League.

“Given cricket’s popularity in this region, I’m sure local fans will enjoy the chance to come along to Hurstville Oval to offer their support to the Women’s Big Bash League.”
