Ita Buttrose AO OBE to visit Hurstville City

Legendary media editor, businesswoman, best-selling author, President of Alzheimers Australia and 2013 Australian of the Year, Ita Buttrose AO OBE will be special guest speaker as part of 2013 Library and Information Week at Marana Auditorium, Hurstville Entertainment Centre on Wednesday, 22 May 2013.

Mayor of Hurstville, Cr Jack Jacovou said Hurstville City Council is delighted to have one of Australia’s most successful business women visit Hurstville City for this special one-off event.

“Twice voted Australias most admired woman, Ita Buttrose AO OBE, began her distinguished career as a copygirl at The Australian Womens Weekly when she was 15,” he said.

“By 21, she was the magazine’s Social Editor and by 33, had become the Weekly’s Editor, its youngest ever - a distinction she still holds today.

“Ita strikes a chord with people of all ages and she is not only a notable Australian who has achieved so much professionally, she also actively contributes her time to many non-profit organisations.

“She is currently the National President of Alzheimer’s Australia, Patron of the Macular Degeneration Foundation; and Vice President Emeritus of Arthritis Australia.”

Ita is also a most accomplished author and has written 11 books, the most recent being A Guide To Australian Etiquette: For all Occasions, from Weddings to Work. In addition, her updated autobiography, A Passionate Life, was published in July 2012.
