Local Landscapes exhibition

Posted 28 April 2010 by (Hurstville News)

Mayor of Hurstville, Cr Philip Sansom said Local Landscapes is the first solo exhibition of local artist Jennifer Stockins.

“Jennifer has lived in the Sutherland Shire since 2004 and works in mediums including printmaking, textiles, sculpture and painting,” he said.

“As an artist she is enchanted by the cheeky cockatoos who like to unpeg her washing on the clothesline and the curious lorikeets that come to visit on her balcony.

“The artworks in Local Landscapes are inspired by her love of the parks and reserves of St George and Sutherland Shire, and the wildlife surrounding her home.”

Mayor Sansom said Jennifer has formed strong links with Hurstville City Museum & Gallery by facilitating creative workshops for children through its weekend ‘Art Attack’ program.

“Jennifer has also been involved in several Museum & Gallery exhibitions by the Mortdale Community Services’ Mental Health Arts Development group, which she tutors” he said.

“She is currently completing fine arts studies at the University of Wollongong, has won several awards, and has had her work featured in numerous exhibitions.”

The official opening of Local Landscapes will be held on Saturday, 1 May 2010 at 1.00pm . All welcome.

This free exhibition will run until 26 May .
