New exhibition to highlight cultural exchange project

Posted 31 August 2015 by (Hurstville News)

Mayor of Hurstville, Cr Con Hindi is inviting community members to attend a new and exciting exhibition which is part of a cultural exchange project between Zhongshan and the City of Hurstville.

Mayor Hindi said the exhibition, entitled Harmony in Divergence , is an illustration of contemporary artworks from Zhongshan, Guangdong Province in China.

“The wonderful exhibition showcases recent artworks by members of the Zhongshan Fine Artists’ Association,” he said.

“Zhongshan has had a strong relationship with Sydney since the mid-1800’s, where numerous Zhongshan residents migrated to Australia.

“Up until the 1980’s, over 30 per cent of the Chinese community living in Sydney were originally from Zhongshan, so this exhibition is a great exploration of traditional culture and heritage.

“Zhongshan has seen an emerging new generation of artists, which collaborates and harmonises Eastern and Western, as well as modern and traditional styles of painting.

“This expression of style can be seen throughout this collection demonstrating harmony and unity.”

“I would also like to thank exhibition organisers and partnering organisations for their support including; The Bureau of Press, Publication, Radio & Television of Zhongshan, Zhongshan Artists’ Association and Zhongshan Museum of Art.”

This free exhibition is on display at Hurstville Museum & Gallery from Wednesday, 2 September until Sunday, 13 September 2015.
Opening hours:
