Residents in Penshurst area advised of water supply shutdown tonight due to urgent repair works

Posted 23 July 2014 by (Hurstville News)

Sydney Water is advising customers in the Penshurst, Peakhurst, Beverly Hills, Mortdale, Riverwood, and Lugarno areas that water supply will be shut off around 9pm tonight for urgent repairs after an electricity work crew damaged a water main.
It is expected that around 4,000 properties in the affected areas will experience low water pressure, while others may be without water for the duration of the repairs.
Sydney Water crews will work as quickly as possible to repair the broken main and have water restored to the area. It is expected that work will be completed around 7am, however this timing will depend on the scope of the repairs needed.
Sydney Water crews have worked throughout the day in preparation for repair works later tonight to minimise the impact on customers and the morning peak hour traffic on Forest Road.
Unfortunately, the main cannot be repaired without the water supply to the pipe being shutoff. Where possible, Sydney Water crews have redirected water from surrounding suburbs to help minimise the impact of the shutdown.
To minimise the impact on customers, work will start around 9pm this evening when water use is at its lowest.
Sydney Water apologises for the inconvenience this will cause some customers.
Customers are encouraged to plan for overnight water use by filling additional containers.
If customers need assistance during the shutdown or if they require more information they can contact our customer call centre on 13 20 90.
Updates will be provided on Sydney Water’s Facebook and Twitter accounts as well as on our website .
