Vibrant Lunar New Year Street Festival on this Saturday

Hurstville City Council is proud to present the 2013 Hurstville Lunar New Year Street Festival to be held along Forest Road, Hurstville on Saturday, 2 February 2013.
Mayor of Hurstville, Cr Jack Jacovou said this year there is an impressive line-up of live entertainment for festival-goers to enjoy.

“There will be a host of talented performers including Lucy Dancing School, a special performance by the Korean Cultural Office, and solo performers such as Laraine Li, TVBA International Chinese New Talent Singing Championship (Sydney region) winners, and many more.” he said.

“In addition, this year for the first time, a colourful street parade will take place along Forest Road commencing at 12.05pm.

“The parade will weave its way through Hurstville CBD, making its way to Westfield Hurstville where it will conclude with a spectacular traditional Lion Dance performed by the Australian Yau Kung Mun Dragon and Lion Dancing group.

“There will also be over 70 food and market stalls on the day along with a number of free children’s activities,

“The Bupa Kid’s Corner will be located at Palm Court car park, and young children will have the opportunity to pat baby barnyard animals, get up close to a variety of reptiles, have their face painted and play on a jumping castle.”

Mayor Jacovou said along with the free live entertainment, festivities, and family fun, an exciting lucky draw competition will take place with the major prize a trip for two people to visit Hong Kong, and Macau.

“To enter, festival goers need to just pick up an Official Festival Program available at the festival information stall on the day, fill out the coupon and be present for the draw which will be held at approximately 2.55pm on the centre stage,” he said.

“The 2013 Hurstville Lunar New Year Street Festival is shaping up to be a jam-packed community celebration and I encourage local residents and people from all over Sydney to come along and celebrate the Year of the Snake in our wonderful city.”
